Education Workshop and Courses

Resuscitation Academy Leadership Course

UPEC organized the first Resuscitation Academy Leadership Course in Southeast Asia in 2016. This two-day program introduces EMS leaders to the 10 steps for improving survival rates from cardiac arrest. Participants have the opportunity to learn from renowned faculty with proven expertise in leading successful resuscitation improvement initiatives, network with EMS leaders from systems around the globe, and access comprehensive support materials.
Over the years, our UPEC Resuscitation Academy team has organized both local and international courses, supporting EMS in the region to improve out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survival rates.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Directors’ Course

The series of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Directors’ Courses are the localized version of the NAEMSP Medical Directors Course. It aims to enhance the participants’ expertise in EMS issues. It provides an overview of elements that run the range and depth of issues vital to EMS.
Originating from the National EMS Medical Directors Course & Practicum by the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP), the EMS Medical Director course is accredited by the Asia Association in EMS (AAEMS) in Asia.
The EMS Medical Directors’ Course can be divided into three sub-categories:
-
EMS Medical Directors’ Course – An entry course for medical directors for both EAS and MTS. A prerequisite for the Advanced EMS Medical Directors’ Course.
-
Advanced EMS Medical Directors’ Course – This course provides advanced knowledge for medical directors of EAS.
-
EMS Leadership for SCDF Commanders – With the increasing demand of the national EMS, firemen from SCDF are cross-trained as EMTs. This course offers commanders from SCDF an oversight of EMS.

NAEMT Courses

Various courses developed by NAEMT were introduced to enhance the knowledge of our pre-hospital providers. The NAEMT Courses in Singapore are coordinated by the Trauma Training Centre, TTSH (for trauma courses) and UPEC (for all other courses) in Singapore. UPEC members are also part of PHTLS core faculty.

Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) Provider Course

TTM was strongly recommended by ILCOR (2015) and NRC (2016) as a component of post resuscitation care. It has been known to be effective to im-prove the survival rate and neurological function outcome of patients after cardiac arrest.
This course provides local providers with in-depth knowledge to manage patients on TTM. The course is organised by the National TTM Workgroup. For more information on this national workgroup, please click here.

National Pre-hospital Emergency Care Workshop

The National Pre-hospital Emergency Care Workshop held on 3 December 2024 aimed to update participants on the latest developments in pre-hospital care while providing practical skills training for managing specific injuries. The session focused on advancing knowledge and practical applications in burn injuries and intra-abdominal injuries.
Lecture Summaries:
Lecture 1: Burn Injuries
Content: Different types and degrees of burns, including
BSA (Body Surface Area) calculation.
Focus: Management of burn casualties in the pre-hospital
setting using the Patient Assessment Model (PAM).
Lecture 2: Intra-abdominal Injuries
Content: Overview of intra-abdominal injuries, including
signs and symptoms.
Focus: Management of intra-abdominal injuries in the pre-hospital
setting using PAM.
Lecture 3: The Future of Singapore Pre-Hospital Care
Content: Updates on ongoing changes in the local pre-hospital
care landscape.
Focus: Insights into the future direction of pre-hospital
emergency care in Singapore.
Skills Stations:
Skills Station 1: Management of Patient with Burns
Objective: Participants recognized the signs and symptoms
of burns and practiced managing a simulated patient in the pre-hospital
setting.
Skills Station 2: Management of Patient with Intra-abdominal Injuries
Objective: Participants recognized the signs and symptoms
of intra-abdominal injuries and practiced managing a simulated patient
in the pre-hospital setting.
This workshop successfully built upon the foundations laid in previous sessions, focusing on enhancing theoretical knowledge and practical skills in pre-hospital trauma care.
The next workshop will be announced soon. Stay tuned for updates and registration details!

Resuscitation Academy High Performance CPR Workshop
The High Performance CPR (HPCPR) workshop aims to optimize CPR delivery and improve survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). This workshop equips EMS educators, healthcare professionals with evidence-based resuscitation techniques while emphasizing the science behind CPR and the importance of data-driven performance improvement.
